The Southern Corridor
Along the Southern Corridor, the mines, especially bauxite, are located between 150 and 350 kilometres from the ocean coast, i.e. 3 to 5 times further from the ocean than the mines in the Northern Corridor. Under these conditions, transport costs are too high for the mines in southern Guinea to be profitable. The annual mining potential is estimated at 40 million tonnes for bauxite and 20 million tonnes for iron. The lack of infrastructure is the main obstacle to the development of mining companies in the areas concerned.
Only one solution is possible: it is the mutualisation of infrastructures in order to minimise investments and allowing mining companies to export their minerals with a satisfactory OPEX CAPEX and a competitive FOB selling price on the world market.

MCI has carried out exclusive technical studies for the launch of the project financing, development, operation, maintenance of the infrastructure of the Southern Corridor. These exclusive technical and financial studies were shared with the Guinean authorities in a win-win situation.
A contract with ANAIM was signed on 24 May 2021 in Abu Dhabi, allowing MCI to start the process and to be the sole and exclusive operator on the Southern Corridor (port, road, rail) in accordance with the principle of mutualisation.
This first agreement also covers the Central Corridor and Central Zone railways, the Central Corridor River route, and the Southern Corridor railway.
